Solomon’s Seal: Side Effects or Adverse Reactions

Observational and anecdotal information suggests that Solomon’s Seal has minimal to no negative side effects. This may be in part because tinctures are fairly benign. Their intent is to capture the essential qualities of a plant and to dispense those in a few drops into the body, almost like homeopathic remedies, flower essences, and the like. It is exceedingly difficult to overdose. Wellness practitioners have also told us that they have not found any adverse reactions from any of their clients taking our Solomon’s Seal tinctures.

Solomon's Seal root

As benign as Solomon’s Seal has historically been reported to be for over 3,000 years, it is important to state that the present medical system in the United States has strong opposing views about the value and usefulness of “alternative interventions” like herbs and tinctures. In the Far East, Solomon’s Seal is valued as one of the top five healing herbs in the plant world. In the West its medicinal qualities are little known.

Your medical doctor may oppose your using our tincture. S/he may not recommend its use if you are using other prescription medications or the like. They may be concerned about possible drug interactions.

Our intent is always to know and share the best and latest information available about using Solomon’s Seal or other healing herbs. As wellness educators, we are also attempting to work with the medical community, both traditional and alternative, so that practitioners are well-informed. In any case, however, if you are under medical supervision, please get consultation if you believe it is necessary. Continue reading

Solomon’s Seal and the Healing Effects of Prayer and Affirmation

Solomon’s Seal has a long history as a plant with diverse healing capabilities. However, it is fallacious to assume that it can be the end-all to your discomfort from injury. I encourage you to be open to and informed about various healing modalities: from the traditional to the alternative, from science to spiritual. For example, in moments of trauma, injury or crisis people have a natural inclination toward help in the form of prayer, visualization or affirmation.

Many years ago I counseled Viet Nam war veterans who returned home with mangled bodies from stepping on land mines. I would walk through the softly lit ward and hear streams of prayers filter through fits of crying. As a young intern, I became aware that, beyond any medical intervention I had idealized to be their cure, there was a deeper level of intervention they sought for which I had little understanding. Consequently, I decided that in any form of counseling and rehabilitation therapy I offered, I would strive to embolden the individual not only through science but also through their faith. After all, I reasoned, an injury may be more than just a broken body part; it may also be a broken spirit. Continue reading

Healing Texting, Thumb and Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI) with Solomon’s Seal: Part 1

The proliferation and use of PDAs (wireless personal digital assistants) such as Blackberries, and the significant increase in time spent at computer keyboards or engaging in video gaming has created a whole new generation of people of all ages experiencing hand and finger injury, pain and discomfort. More and more, people are depending on these devices to stay in touch with friends and family. However, an increasing number are beginning to pay the price for such ready access to the world.

Popularly called “Blackberry Thumb”, or “teen texting tendonitis,” this Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) occurs because these devices rely almost solely on the use of your thumbs (not all of your fingers) for typing. Any device that relies on the thumbs for typing can cause this type of injury because the thumbs simply weren’t designed for such use. Additionally, there are also other stress injuries reported — wrist, forearm, shoulder, upper back and neck — as a result of constant texting. Continue reading

We have an incredible capacity for healing ourselves. It does not matter where we may see ourselves on the wellness/worseness continuum, we always possess some regenerative capacity which can make us more well, or at least have the feeling of being well, in some way. The power of regeneration, and the role Solomon’s Seal plays in healing is worthy of deeper study.

If you contemplate life in terms of regeneration, a whole new way of seeing reality will open up: everything appears to be attempting to regenerate its existence in some way. Let’s discuss this closer. Continue reading
